I edit all general fiction, although romance, especially m/m romance, is my specialty. I am open to any pairing and all subject matter barring abuse or harm of any kind to children or animals.
I use the Chicago Manual of Style in my edits, so if you have a specific style you would like me to use, you would need to let me know.
Developmental Edits – $0.017 per word
Copy/Line Edits – $0.01 per word
Proofreading – $0.006 per word
Story Analysis – $15 per 10,000 words
Please be sure of the type of editing you need. Quality editing is invaluable, but it comes at a cost, and it won’t do you any good to pay for copy edits when you really need developmental edits. Take a look below at the brief description of each level of edits.
Developmental editing, sometimes called substantive editing, involves a global overview of the story to ensure a solid framework and adherence to genre conventions (unless the story deliberately departs from those conventions). At this level, edits might involve deleting sections or characters and rearranging elements or entire chapters to maintain focus on the story or character arcs.
Copy/Line editing assumes the story is in its final structural state and concentrates on grammar, word usage, punctuation, and consistency in names, appearances, and spelling. At a line level, the goal is to improve readability and writing quality, as well as point out lapses in POV or any other general issues, which might affect reader engagement and enjoyment.
Proofreading is a line-by-line examination of the text to ensure the manuscript is free of typos, misspellings, misplaced or missing commas, and other incorrect or missing punctuation.
In a story analysis, I will read the book and provide a written assessment of the story elements and commercial potential, looking at dialogue, character development, effective use of tension and conflict, and POV choice, for example. I will also comment on any noticeable issues, such as plot holes, inconsistency, or pacing problems.
